KDL Interiors is a design firm focused on residential and commercial design consulting. Katie Lombardi, a Certified Interior Designer with NCIDQ and LEED certifications started the company in 2009. After earning a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Interior Design at Miami University in Oxford, OH, Katie went on to work for nationally recognized retail and corporate design firms. Her 15 years of design training is evidenced by her sophisticated approach to each individual project.
I started my career in 2004 with retail design firm Chute Gerdeman in Columbus, OH. Working with companies such as Levi Strauss, Lenscrafters, Sara Lee, Lane Bryant, and Peterbrooke Chocolatier allowed me to focus on developing brand identity for my clients. After two years, my husband and I relocated to the Washington, DC area where I quickly found a home at the award winning design & architecture firm, Gensler. Here, I focused on corporate interiors giving me a new level of sophistication in design. It greatly expanded my knowledge in furniture and finish selection while developing my project coordination capabilities. Gensler elevated my awareness to detail and exposed me to a higher level of design.
In 2008, I decided to try my hand at a smaller, more boutique firm, Envision Design. While still focusing on corporate interiors, I had the amazing opportunity to lead the furniture and finish coordination for the US Green Building Council's new national headquarters in Washington, DC. Envision's focus on green design was a true inspiration and led me to become a LEED Certified designer.
I have most recently used my experience and expertise to start my own design firm. KDL Interiors develops a comprehensive design concept that brings spaces a fresh new look and attitude. It has allowed me to bring my 15 years of training to residential design. Here, I am able to capture what is current and fresh. Each project is different. It starts with the client's overall style and adds layers of design and details on top. Project success is a happy client with a new beautiful space. I use my talents in mixing fabrics, textures, patterns, and color to embrace each individual's style to create a visually appealing and cohesive design. Whether traditional, modern, eclectic (or somewhere in the middle) it can be made to look current, fresh, and uplifting.
